Wrestling for peace ended up in chaos

By John Agok

The Wrestling between Jonglei and Lakes State that took place  at the Newsite playground over the weekend ended with chaotic scene from fans of both sides fighting themselves leaving five people injured.

While Speaking to Juba Monitor on Saturday, the Chairman of Bahr el Ghazal Wrestling Association Martin Makur said the incident happened after the wrestling had finished and people were leaving the field.

“The incident happened when I had left the scene of wrestling and I was told by eyewitness that the thing started  with two wrestlers running around with their flag in jubilation of winning the match and this angered the losing team and they began snatching away the flag and that was the cause of chaos,” he said.

“I also called the security personnel to find out the reason of shootings at the wrestling scene, “they told me that, people who are supporters of wrestling teams were fighting themselves leaving five people with bad injuries,” Martin said.

Meanwhile, Ajak Mach, the eyewitness said the guys from Lakes are the ones fighting us till they were chased to the riverbank and we have been dodging stones and some bullets being fired overheads,” we did not even know the cause of all this mess, we are just fleeing from bullets and stones,” he added.

However the Wrestling match ended 1:0 in favor of Lakes state beating Jonglei state. There were only four wrestlers who wrestled from each side leaving out the other 21 wrestlers due to lot of disruptions which eventually led to chaos that day. The Giant wrestlers Maghot, Alejiou and Gongic were all held at drawn game.
