Western Equatoria Governor initiates community Peace dialogue

The newly appointed Western Equatoria State Governor Alfred Futuyo Karaba has initiated community peace dialogue in the State as his plans and ways of uniting the communities who have divided among them.

Earlier in July this year, following his appointment, governor Futuyo had promised to unite all the communities of all defunct States of greater Western Equatoria State.

“I know we have problems within our communities in the State or with neighboring States and these problems needed to be solved and we need to forgive, reconcile and unite.”

“Especially Zande and Balanda, Mvolo and its neighbors from the Lakes State, the misunderstanding between those communities need to be brought to an end. From here I must go and meet with all stakeholders of those communities,” said Futuyo.     

Through  phone interview with Juba Monitor for from Yambio the State capital of Western Equatoria, the press Secretary in the governor’s office,  Moses Samuel Elikana said  so far the governor have met with two communities of Zande and Balanda, and they discussed many ways of ending conflicts among themselves.

“The governor has started his mission from here (Yambio) by which he talk to the different community leaders, last week he also went to Tambura and discussed with the leaders especial the elders to reconcile and forget the pasts.”

According to the press secretary, the two communities agreed to unite in reconciliation and forgiveness.

Elikana said the communities were happy with the initiatives taken by the Governor and expressed their willingness to continue working for sustainable peace in the State as well as the country.

However, he revealed that the next governor mission will be to Mvolo before he move to Mundri East County of the State.

He said the Governor encourages all the communities in the State to continue to embark on forgiveness, healing, reconciliation and unity in the State.

“Without forgiveness and reconciliation there will be no sustainable peace in the country.”
