United Nations mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has officially handed over a newly constructed center to Yei women association to be used as a training center.
The facility was constructed under the united nation mission in South Sudan by Quick Impact Project.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, UNMISS Head of Field Office in Juba Geetha Pious said that the facility was meant for the empowerment and advancement of the women in Yei River County.
“The hand over was done to ensure that women are strengthened and they advance in their roles as peace builders through participation in all the peace process,” said Pious.
She revealed that the mandates of UNMISS is to support the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution 2025 on women peace and security.
Pious also encouraged women to engage in recovery activities, economic and livelihood productions.
He believed involving women to participate in every sector in the government is paramount because womencould be peace builders and the back born of every society.
The Head of UNMISS field office Juba called on the leadership of the association to work together with all the women in Yei to promote unity, peace and reconciliation.
She noted that there was need to do more in gender equality within the country and the whole world hence urging the Yei Women to be exemplary in contributing towards the encouragement of other community women in skills training, capacity building in business, trauma healing and support for GBV survivors.
