The officials from the College of Computer Science and Technology have called on the government to create internet for easy communication nationwide.

According to Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology, Mr. Othow Onak Giel the level of using internet is very low in the country.

He emphasized that building capacity for internet should be in place in order to come up with many trainees in most parts of the country.

“Training is one of the important tools. Internet should be created because farmers and cattle keepers want to use internet if it is available,” said Onak.

In his part, the Head of Development Communication at the University of Juba Mr. Chaplain Kara Yokoju said that internet policy was now in place that would guide internet telecommunication companies.

He said internet was very important for the population to share opinions and ideas. “It is very important to have access to information through internet,” said Kara.

He said the government already had regulations and guidelines on internet that would direct the users and telecom companies on how to use it appropriately.

He said because of the policy and regulation in place, the government had shutdown some online newspapers that were giving fake news to the readers.

However the Director General for National Communication Authority, Dr. Lado Kenyi said that the number of people using internet had drastically dropped in 2017 following the insecurity in the country.

According to him, numbers of people using internet has dropped from 3.5 million in 2015 to 1.5 million people in 2017 because of the insecurity and economic crisis that had forced many internet companies and government institutions to stop the operation.
