UMMISS Deputy Commander visits Northern Bahr el Ghazal State

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan has arrived to Aweil to meet with Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State to discuss areas of cooperation between the United Nations Mission in South Sudan and State government in order to boost peace, development and security in the state.

Speaking to Media yesterday in Aweil Town, The UNMISS Deputy Force Commander, Maj. Gen Main Ullah Chowdhury said that the propose of visiting Aweil was to meet with Governor and Division three commander in Aweil to see how we could cooperate together to maintain peace and security.

“UMMISS will keep continued support to the Government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal and its people with developmental activities project and describe Aweil as peaceful and enjoyable, ’’ he said.  

The UNMISS Deputy Force Commander’s visit also extended his best wishes of New Year 2021 to the Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal and the citizens of Aweil.

“This is a dry session to us UMMISS and it is also an open window to carry on our developmental activities like construction and other things that UMMISS  could do for the people of South Sudan and particularly here in Aweil,” he added

On his part, Tong Akeen Ngor, the Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state welcomed the UNMISS Deputy Force Commander for his visit and his fruitful discussion in the areas of development.

Governor Tong assured the UNMISS Deputy Force Commander that his government and United Nations Mission in Aweil would work together to support the Revitalized Peace Agreement in the Country.

“The people of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state are living peacefully without fear of insecurity or criminal activities and we are also very cooperative with other people,” the Governor assured.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen Bak Akoon, Division Three Commander thanked his counterpart from UNMISS for his visit to Aweil to acquaint himself with the situation in the area and to enhance cooperation between the stakeholders in Northern Bahr el Ghazal.

“United Nations Mission in South Sudan forces in Aweil and South Sudan People’s Defense forces are sharing the information of security together with any doubt from both partners,” General Bak admitted.

General Bak said the security in Northern Bahr el Ghazal is normal and remain stable.
