The leader of the People’s Liberal Party (PLP), Peter Mayen Majongdit has been suspended from representing the Umbrella parties in the High Level Revitalization Forum in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa.

The PLP leader was suspended by members of the Umbrella Political Parties over alleged reports of having proposed the position of the third vice president for Former SPLM political detainees during the last round of peace talks.

In a letter addressed to IGAD Special Envoy to South Sudan Dr. Ismail Wais dated June 3, seen by the Juba Monitor, the Umbrella members criticized Mayen’s performance at the High Level Revitalization Forum has “not been positive and is not on the will of the Umbrella Political Parties in South Sudan.”

According to the statement, Mr. Akwal Aleu Mijak shall be the interim chairperson and will be leading the Umbrella’s delegation to the third round of talks in Addis Ababa.

“We are sorry to learn that our representative Hon. Peter Mayen Majongdit has not been positive in the 2nd phase of HLRF because he proposed the position of 3rd Vice President to go for Former SPLM Detainees,” the statement said.

Attempts to reach Peter Mayen for comments were futile as his known telephone numbers were off.

The Umbrella said Mayen does not reflect their opinion as they did not have any objective with former political detainees.

“The Umbrella does not have any aspiration to form a coalition with FDs and Mayen is not mandated to form a coalition with any group outside of the country or within,” the statement reads in part.

They said the entire members of the Umbrella constituted a disciplinary committee to question Peter Mayen on his statement.

The Umbrella further accused the PLP leader of playing a negative role by inviting unknown persons to the HRLF on the ticket of the Umbrella Political Parties.

“Peter Mayen remained behind in Addis Ababa for unknown reasons and could not return home to brief members of the Umbrella to know more about the peace agreement. Mayen failed to do that and even went far to invite some somebody call Paul Matur Manyok from USA to attend the HLRF,” they claimed.
