The Director of Al Sabbah Hospital, Dr. Justin Tongun, said the government and organisations need to cooperate and exert more efforts to save the lives of children in the country.
“We are here to open a ward that has just been renovated since the hospital was opened in 1983. My staff and I are here 24 hours times seven ready to do our best in offering you the services,” Dr. Tongun said.
“We need to make sure we postpone the deaths and save the children and provide them with the opportunity to be what they want in life,” Dr. Tongun added. He further said without children, the future of the country is not blare.
The UAP Board Representative, Professor Scopus Dima, said that today’s world sees business with a human face and therefore it was important that when doing business, people have to be mindful of the community they are serving and the community that is providing them with business.
“We stepped in to renovate this ward that is now well equipped to enable the medical staff to render proper medical services to the children,” Prof. Dima stated.
He said that the government spends a lot of money each year transporting people to foreign countries such as; Kenya, Uganda, India and many others for medical treatment and added that they at UAP are ready to cooperate with the government so as to reduce on the cost it spends on health care.
Prof. Dima further said UAP will seek to cooperate with other partners in the business fraternity to rehabilitate, provide and expand the wards at the hospital.
Jubek State Minister of Health, Dr. Felix Ladu, applauded UAP for the commendable job of renovating the ward at the children’s Hospital. “UAP, you have touched the heart of the nation, South Sudan because the care of children is paramount to all of us,” he said.
Dr. Ladu further called on the administration of the hospital to properly maintain the renovated ward and said that he and his Director General in the State Ministry, Dr. Sale Lolaku will supervise to ensure that the standard of the renovated ward is maintained.
He added that the renovation of the ward at the hospital was not only for Jubek State, but for the whole nation. The State Minister further urged UAP to provoke other business companies in the country and within the region to invest in the country and empower the medical staff in various hospitals through training.
Al Sabbah Children’s Hospital is the only paediatric hospital in South Sudan. It was established in Juba in 1983 and remains the only facility specialising in a number of paediatric services, including expanded immunization, treatment of malnutrition and general outpatient medical services.
