Two killed, one wounded in Rumbek

The police authorities in Rumbek Central County, Lakes State confirmed that two people have been killed and one wounded by unknown gunmen on Thursday night at Gan cattle camp.

Speaking to Juba Monitor the police spokesperson in Rumbek, Lakes state captain Elijah Mabor Makuac said the suspects who carried out the killing at cattle camp are yet to known by the security forces.

“It is true there was a report of killing of two people and one critically wounded at Gan cattle camp on Thursday night,” said Makuac.

Captain Makuac said the forces could have not managed to go to the scene of incidence because they have been deployed in town in order to provide security during the Christmas and New Year Eve. He added that there is also lack of road accessibility to Toch as the ground is still wet.

“The gunmen who killed people and leaving one wounded ran away, and we could not manage to send forces there as soon as possible,” said Makuac.

He said the governor of Lakes State, Makur Kulang Liei was attending New Year prayers in village at Patir church, Rumbek East County and that will be an opportunity for him, the governor to persuade the armed youth to cease from intercommunal conflict and revenge killing in the State.

 He said the security situation within the State capital during the Christmas and New Year was good.

“There are no major serious crimes committed except on the Wednesday when a group of gang members clashed injuring two people. Meanwhile, there was a traffic report where a motorcycle and bicycle collided causing minor injuries,” said Makuac.

“At Akuac residential area, Rumbek town some people were beaten by a gang no serious injuries,” said Makuac.

Makuac said the problem now is that children age 15-17 engaging in an excessive drinking and they ended up beating themselves at night.
