Authorities in Eastern Lakes State have arrested two suspects over the killing of the director of education of Amadi State.
Two weeks ago, Alfred Abui, the director of education in Amadi State was shot dead by suspected criminals on his way to Mapourdit in Yirol west, Eastern Lakes State.
Last week, John Obote, Amadi State Information Minister said that the two states formed a committee to identify the suspects.
“We call on the people in the area to be calm because the two State governments are working hard to investigate the incident,” Obote said.
In a phone interview with Juba Monitor yesterday, Simon Adok, the Eastern Lakes State Acting Information Minister said two suspects were arrested by the state authorities.
“The two guys were arrested two days back in Mapourdit County, Yirol west and they are now under police custody for investigation and after the police finished with them, they will be presented to court,” said Mr. Adok.
Adok added that the two were suspected of involving in criminal activities in the State. “They are fond of looting people’s properties, killing and cattle rustling and there was some evident which made them to be detained,” Adok told Juba Monitor.
He called on youth in the country to embark on peace building rather than involving in criminal activities, adding that “implementing the Revitalized Peace Agreement is the way forward for development of this country.”
He also expressed gratitude to communities of the two states for not taking law into their hands like in previous incidences.
“It means people are now coming to their culture of unity,” said Mr. Adok. “Forgiveness is most needed amongst South Sudanese, revenging cannot take us anywhere but instead it can take us to distruction of our country,” he added.
Late Alfred Abui had worked in the Ministry of Education in the defunct western equatoria state for the last 20 years.
