Twenty nine people killed in Torit during reconciliation

Authorities in Torit state said twenty nine people have been killed and ten injured during a reconciliatory event last Sunday.
Fermo Peter Isara, Commissioner of Torit County said the incident took place when he and his counterpart of Lafon County brought the two communities together for reconciliation.
According to the Isara, some suspected armed youth from Torit County went and raided goats from Lafon County which led to the killing of an elderly man.
“We were trying to identify the suspected criminals from the Lafon County who killed an elder from Ohiri village during the raiding,” Isara explained.
He blamed the youth of the two communities for being aggressive to one another during the reconciliation.
However, the commissioner said at least Twenty nine people had been killed and ten others seriously injured in the inter-communal conflict which was broke out at reconciliatory event.
He said those who sustained injuries were receiving treatment at Torit hospital.
Mr. Isara added that Torit state government was preparing to send organized forces to quell down the situation.
Torit County commissioner appealed to the humanitarian organizations to rescue the situation and provide basic needs to women and children affected by the conflict.
According to the sources on ground, the two commissioners narrowly escaped the attack when the meeting turned violent.
However, till Monday, the whereabouts of the Commissioner of Lafon County was not known.
