Top army officer and church leader gunned down

Two people were gunned down by unknown gunmen in Malakal town on Wednesday evening, an official confirmed.
Speaking to Juba Monitor by Phone yesterday, the Secretary General of Upper Nile State Ajak Awer confirmed the incident saying that the SSPDF Major General was shot dead together with the coordinator for South Sudan Council of churches on Wednesday evening.
“The incident happened on Wednesday at around 7:30 PM in Malakal town, and the Maj. Gen. Arop Akuei and the coordinator of SSCC Juliano Ambrose, Awer said.
However, Awer further stated that they are yet to find out the cause of the killing and look for the assailants.
“There is no information yet behind the killing of the two but I have ordered the security organs to look for the killers. There is no link or arrest as per now but the security organs have started their operation searching for the assailants,” Awer added.
“People were shocked at that night because of this but as per now the situation is calm and I have declared a night curfew starting from 7:30 PM till 6:00 AM in the morning,” he added.
Juba Monitor tried to contact James Oyet Secretary General of South Sudan Council of Churches but his phone was off.
The deputy spokespersons of SSPDF Brid. Gen. Santo Domic Chol confirmed the killing of Maj. Gen. Arop Akuei.
In July this year, Thomas Aban Akol Ajawin, 54 a public prosecutor was shot dead while having dinner at a restaurant in the same town of Malakal.
