Thirty two States’ Governors dismissed, Counties dissolved

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has dismissed all the governors of 32 states hours after reverting the country to the 10 former states.
In the Presidential degree number read on SSBC on Saturday evening, Kiir also dissolved all the existing states and county governments.
According to the degree, Kiir directed the states’ secretary generals of the respective states to act as caretaker administrators pending formation of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU).
He also directed all the chairpersons of the respective counties to act on behalf of commissioners as caretakers.
President Kiir’s move came on the same day he dissolved the controversial 32 states and reverted the country to the former 10 states and established three administrative areas. The new administrative areas are Abyei, Ruweng and Greater Pibor.
The formation of Revitalized government of National Unity was postponed twice due to stalemate over the number and boundaries of states.
On Friday, all state governors, Abyei area administrators, top government officials from states and national forum converged at the Freedom Hall and endorsed the 32 states and Abyei saying it was the popular need of the people of the country.
However, President Kiir decided to dissolve the 32 states, a compromise he says was to preserve the unity to move the people of South Sudan out of the senseless conflict which had affected the livelihoods of many.
The President is expected to present his compromise to the IGAD Council of Ministers at a meeting in Ethiopian Capital Addis Ababa.
He said oppositions groups had been holding the country at a standstill on the issues of states although it was not the case which resulted in them taking up arms.
