The bishop of the catholic Church of South Sudan Dr. Stephen Ameyu said that there is hope in celebrating Easter as the leadership continues to implement the peace agreement.
His lordship delivered this message during Easter Sunday prayers attended by president Salva Kiir Mayardit at Saint Teresa cathedral church in Kator on Sunday.
“There is hope and joy following the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ that people of South Sudan would remain enjoying peace and unity as the leadership is implementing the revitalized peace agreement,” Ameyu said.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Environment Josephine Napon who spoke on behalf of the president expressed that the Easter season would be a season of peace and love among South Sudanese.
She urged South Sudanese to remain united and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Josephine reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making sure that South Sudanese are in peace.
On Thursday President Kiir in his Easter Message called on the citizens to pray for peace in the country amidst Easter Celebration.
“As you rejoice during this holiday, I am calling upon you to maintain peace and harmony within your communities, I am also calling upon you to join me in prayers for peace, love, and wisdom to overcome the challenges we are facing as a country,” Kiir said.
Easter season is a Christian festival and cultural holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD.
