The ten songs challenge in depth

By Mandela Nelson Denis

South Sudanese music industry is getting crazy day and night with new emerging ideas. Recently, Silver X started a challenge for artists to produce ten songs in ten consecutive days.

The ten songs challenge as it became to be, became the talk of the music followers in the country.

Juba Monitor brings you the artists (Silver Extra, MC Lumoex, and Irene Toss) who stood the challenge, and the songs they produced.

It must be mentioned that the ten songs challenge got fans of the musicians talking-sometimes beefing in support of their favorite artists.

Juba Monitor caught up with Silver X who returned from Kampala to premier his ten songs last week.

Having been in the music industry for nearly a decade, Silver X revealed that it was time for him to show how capable he is in doing ten songs in ten days, and also to disapprove whoever thought it had been hard for him to produce songs.

“Ten songs in ten days is a self-discovery, self-innovation to know what you are capable in doing within a set period of time,” he explained to Juba Monitor.

“The reason of the challenge was to provoke the industry and keep it busy and we all saw the reactions and the coming of other artists to join the race.”

During the challenges, the three artists used their social media platforms to promote their songs, and in some cases, to challenge and jokingly ridicule some of the challengers.

Some fans thought it was a beginning of beefs and conflict, but Silver X said there was “nothing personal” between him and MC Lumoex even though some of their fans thought there was bad blood between the two artists.

“When I came to Juba, Mc Lumoex welcomed me and we even shared same plate of food, this is to clearly show fans out there that we are cool,” said the self-proclaimed Ustaz ta dunia.

Silver X went ahead and held the listeners party of the ten songs challenge where MC Lumoex also attended together with other celebrities.

He added that he respects the two artists that took up the challenge, but said “in order to raise them.

“Being in the same challenge with MC Lumoex and Irene Toss does not mean that they are at my level, no! They are not and they will never be at my level,” Silver X said.

However, MC Lumoex told Juba Monitor that for close to a decade, “there is musical beef” between him and Silver X but it stopped at the stage.

“When Silver X came up with the ten songs challenge, I joined to challenge him and did my ten songs in one day at Kick Back Records, I wanted to show him that musically I am far better than him,” MC Lumoex said.

“We beef on the stage and challenge ourselves in the music map but out there we are very close brothers, the ten songs challenge is a great idea that has kept the industry alive,” he added.

According to MC Lumeox, since the idea of the ten songs challenge came in, John Frog’s Guondo Sakit hit song that had been talk of the city was “swept off the musical wave.”

Meanwhile the challenge was not only between the two male artists. Female Diva Irene Toss of Willy Entertainment is the only female artist who dared the two men on the battle.

Irene revealed that she recorded her ten songs in two days with the aim of showing the two giant artists the presence of female artists in the country.

“I joined the challenge to represent the ladies in the music industry and also prove to the men that we are there,” said the RNB singer.

The ten songs challenge has led to a challenge competition between the three artists on the 21th of September at Nyakuron Cultural Center.

Amoko Williams of Willy Entertainment has staked 300,000 SSP for the winner, 200,000 SSP for second winner and 100,000 SSP for the 3rd winner in the competition.

“The ten songs challenge is not only on facebook but it is going down on the 21st of September in Juba and winners will walk home with prices as token of appreciation,” Amoko said.

South Sudanese music need a lot of creativity and the ten songs challenge kept the artists busy.
