The newly appointed Governor of the Central Bank, Dier Tong Ngor has postponed media briefing to [today] November 6th after two long hours of waiting by the media yesterday.
Dier Tong Ngor who replaced Jamal Abdalla Wani was fired in a presidential decree by President Kiir early this week.
The bank media department had on Wednesday invited journalists from all media houses to cover press conference which supposed to kick off at 2:00 pm local time on Thursday and later was postponed.
However, after arriving at the bank premises yesterday, reporters were kept waiting from 2pm to 4pm only to be informed that the press conference has been rescheduled for “tomorrow [Friday] because the Governor was still in another meeting with officials” according to the media department.
Chance Banniko, the bank media official who passed the information to reporters could not however explained the mysterious meeting which at the last minute forced the new governor to push the media briefing for one more day.
In August, the central bank reported that it had run out of foreign reserves and could not control the depreciating value of South Sudanese pound against hard currency.
The report was later nullified in a press conference by the former governor, Jamal Abdalla Wani saying the official who made the statement was quoted out of context.
