Ten new cases of Covid-19 reported

The National Public health lab in the Ministry of Health has confirmed ten cases positive yesterday over the last 24 hours.

While addressing the press conference on Sunday, Dr. John Rumunu Director General for Preventive Health Services update the media in the latest trends in COVID-19 Pandemic in the Country.

Dr. Rumunu revealed that, “the number of cases increased to 2,970 Cumulative cases and 2,673 recovered, 297 active cases and 10 tested positive are: 9 comes from Juba and other one from Nimule, but they are not in severe conditions.  However, the plans are ongoing to decentralize other testing centers in the Country,” he added.

Dr. Rumunu made breakdown on the leading states in surge recorded number of COVID-19 Cases as the following: Central Equatoria State (CES) is 2, 390, EES 267, Upper Nile state 92, Jonglei state 63, Abyei Administrative Area 56, Lakes 47, Northern Bhar El Ghazal (NBS) 25, Western Bhar El Ghazal (WBS) 8, Western Equatoria State (WES) is 7 and Ruweng and Pibor is yet to be confirmed”.

Meanwhile, the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Health Dr. Mayen Achiek, urged the public to continue observing strict measures mandated by both Ministry of Health and World Health Organization (WHO).

“The Ministry of Health is not subjected to curb COVID – 19 alone but to address the whole healthcare system including other infectious diseases and we must administer all healthcare facilities”, he added.

However, the WHO Country coordinator Dr. Joseph Wamala wrapped it up with global updates regarding Covid-19 trending cases to be standing at 48 millions: America 21 million, Europe 12 million, Asia 9.3 million, Africa continent 1.85 million with South Africa is leading with high rate of death registered cases. African Countries with trending cases are; South Africa, Ethiopia and Kenya.

He further urged countries in Africa to observe and to maintain robust surveillances and ensure that essential services are provided to prevent unexpected consequences.
