Ten captured in fresh clashes in Lol

Authorities in Lol State said some ten soldiers of an opposition group were captured yesterday after clashes between government and opposition forces.
This is the second reported incident in Lol in a week. Last Tuesday, five soldiers reportedly died as a result of fighting between South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) and an opposition armed group.
Speaking to Juba Monitor yesterday, Lol State Information Minister, Anei Anei Juach said the fighting occurred at 3 am between the SSPDF and some opposition forces.
He added that the forces came from the side of western Darfur region of Sudan.
The state information minister alleged that the clashes happened between the government forces and forces loyal to General Paul Malong. He said the clashes happened at the army base in Bor-Medina County of Lol State.
“As I am speaking now, ten soldiers were captured including his commander in the rank of colonel, Anei added.
Mr. Anei said according to the report he obtained yesterday morning no civilian died in the clashes, but said there was no information about the number of casualties on the forces.
He appealed to opposition groups to join the peace process.
“I urge forces loyal to Malong that South Sudan or President Kiir Mayardit is for peace and we call upon them to join the peace agreement to allow us do development,” Anei said.
