STAND TOGETHER, LET NO ONE DIVIDE YOU
With Odongo Odoyo
There are some beliefs which can be dismissed as inconsequential under normal circumstances. And this is where my thought was when this young man interrupted me. Woja Emmanuel was full of “hey Yaba” you know when a good thing is coming there are some strange occurrence like some accidents. He narrated how strangely a vehicle had a tyre-bust and the rim flew away hitting a roadside passerby on the head killing her instantly. Although l was in my own world, l decided to give this young-man a hearing. In all, his message was that the peace celebration was real and the restoration of peace was also real. Time has come for the past to be permanently kept in the past and the present to dictate the future. His reasoning although from a young mind reminded me of One Chinua Achebe’s quotes “a man who calls his kinsmen to a feast does not do so to redeem them from starving.” They all have food in their own houses. When we gather together in the moonlight village ground, it is not because of the moon. Every man can see it in his own compound. We come together because it is good for kinsmen to do so. Therefore, let us continue with the team spirit and enjoy the power of togetherness. Let’s smile not because we don’t have problems but because we are stronger together than problems.” I might not have read the mind of this young man but my assurance to him was to go through this quote and find the answer. In our situation this is what we need to stand together and confront the many problems that face us and try by all possible means to bring back a smile to the faces of those who had lost hope in themselves and their situation. No man is an island and can stand alone without the support of the other. The main day of the peace celebration is on Wednesday the 31st October 2018. It was scheduled to be a day earlier but because of the final touches, it was moved a day ahead. We all agree that man can plan but God’s time is the best. Our prayer is that this peace must come now not tomorrow. Because it is the foundation of positive development and the way forward to prosperity. We have and continue talking peace since it is the base in which all activities including the fourth estate could develop its activities among the society. People need to be informed, educated and entertained. These major fundamental developments can only come handy in a stable environment and where the daily economic activities meet the needs of the larger population. For Woja and his age-mates across the country. There must come a time when the country does not only depend on good or bad omen, but on the youth to propagate unity of purpose for their future existence. The myth of the past should not dictate their thinking of today. They should live a life beyond this past belief. Because today the world is a global village where almost everybody is able to know what is going on in the end of the planet just by switching or pressing a button. The expectation of continuity squarely rest with the youth and they must take their role now to steer the country towards peaceful co-existence and prosperity. They should be speaking with one positive voice for the benefit and well-being of this country. They should be able to reject what stands to separate them and create disunity among. They should learn by the past or retro of the experience that they have faced in the past. They should hold tightly and nurture the peace being brought back to them for their future well-being. It is only by standing and walking together that the enemies can be defeated. Do it now for the country to move forward in socio-economic development for the good of the entire country. This time the celebration will come and pass but to actualize its success must rest squarely in the hands of the youth of this country. Stand together let no one divide you with whatever reason(s). Woja Emmanuel, are you there?
