The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), has launched the third inter-Payam football tournament in Eastern Equatoria-Magwi County to promote peaceful coexistence between the communities.
The inter-Payam peace tournament has been organized for the last two years and this mark the third year for organizing both women and men football in Magwi county.
The tournament which was supposed to register 16 Payam, which kicked off yesterday, registered eleven football clubs from all the Payam of Magwi County.
Speaking during the launch at Magwi County football ground, Magwi County commissioner Hon. David Otto Remson said that the people of Magwi were happy, peaceful and ready to accept any activities dealing in the name of peace.
“In 2019 the theme was SPLM for peace, 2020 we had “SPLM Up” and this year 2022 we said the theme should be SPLM for everybody”, said David Otto Remson, the commissioner of Magwi County.
The SPLM state secretary, Hon. Germany Ojok however appreciated the commissioner for organizing the peace tournament.
“This is what SPLM party and government wanted. Peace is our number in our lives we should handle the young one like the way we suffered, we need to bring them up”, he said.
Hon. Ojok caution the players to play in a peaceful way to avoid hatred amongst themselves.
“This is peace tournament, we are here to play as brothers and sisters. Don’t play with the intention of squeezing some to give pain. We have to play with peace in our hearts”, he said.
He urged the players to preach about peace once the go back to their respective Payam.
“When you go back to your Payam, tell your people that there is already peace in Magwi, let them bring peace across all the Acholi and Madi corridor”, Ojok added.
The program coordinator for peace link in Magwi field office, Mr. Canwat Edward Lawiri however urged the players to avoid chaos during the tournament.
“My advice to other players of the other Payam is that we know these games are organized for peace so we should avoid chaos. Whenever we are in the field, we need to play football that shows a sign of peace.”
