SPLM-IO denies threatening Olony

Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) has denied threatening Johnson Olony Thabo, their own gubernatorial nominee for Upper Nile State of replacing him if he doesn’t report to Juba immediately.
According to a statement circulating through some media outlets, the First Vice President and leader of opposition SPLM-IO, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, is reported to have threatened to replace Gen. Johnson Olony Thabo if he did not return to Juba immediately through a phone call on Friday that attracted an emergency meeting between the General with his close associates in Khartoum.
Speaking to Juba Monitor yesterday, the SPLM-IO Director for information and Public Relations, Puok Baluang said that the information is false, and those who are spreading this false information within the general public are liars.
“The leadership of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) stated several times that the coming of Olony to Juba has nothing to do with his appointment simply because he is a nominee in SPLM-IO. We have some members of SPLM-IO that have been appointed while they were not present in the country for example the governor of Western Bahr El Ghazal Sarah Cleto was appointed while she was in the USA,” Baluang stated.
He added that Olony is the commander of sector one of SPLA-IO forces and that he is there with his forces because that is according to the agreement.
“The army of a party has a representative here in the mechanism of security agreement.”
He revealed that Olony will come to Juba after his appointment.
“He will be shifted to Juba as a politician after he is appointed because the position of governor is a political one. Olony has nothing to do in Juba if he is not appointed as governor of Upper Nile State, we all know that he is a member of SPLM/A-IO, and his party has not threatened their own due to one reason or another,” Baluang added
