SPLM dialogue with IGAD cannot produce meaningful peace
It is absolutely true that the efforts done always by Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) with other international leadership of good will is to secure back home meaningful peace in our beloved country South Sudan. This was possible as Western countries with United Nations have after all thrown in their resources to enable leaders to conduct dialogue with SPLM warring parties until they signed peace agreement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was successful with the hope that the implementation of this peace agreement can end the bloody political crisis that has led to violence and death of poor citizens without accountability.
However, with the collapse of the peace agreement during the clash again in Juba, it becomes meaningless for warlords liberators to continue with multiple forums that are not relevant such as national dialogue as our citizens are not fighting each other at the grass root today. It is SPLM leadership which is fighting itself bitter because of hatred and mistrust against one another because of power and wealth control. Worthily even this revitalization of peace agreement advocated by IGAD will not make any headway unless SPLM is forced to implement the peace accord or otherwise they must be forced out of power whether they like it or not. It is for the interest of our people and the whole nation for them to implement their peace agreement without doubt. We know these antagonist warlords liberators are to certain extent criminal minded as they have been badly oriented by the past leadership at the time of struggle for independence of the nation. Moreover some of them are traumatized by the long war and even made many to be very greedy and love power without caring for the citizens of the country. So the efforts towards revitalization to resuscitate the peace agreement will be in vain as SPLM leaders never like to work together as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Therefore, the only way forwards is that all SPLM factions or conflicting parties whatever name they call themselves must be forced to implement their peace agreement without failure. That means SPLM—IO main stream and other alienated groups should take part in the implementation of peace agreement for the sake of the people.
Thus in contrary if they do not agree to work together then it would be logical or sensible for international leadership of good will and IGAD to form Interim Government made up of technocrats within South Sudan to rule the country for a period of three years until elections take place. This government will then work hard to cut down the size of military army to allow young people to be brought into the army as professional officers that are ready to protect and defend the nation. There is no need for having huge army as it does lid fires of frustration and discord that are burning in every city without security and respect of justice remedies across the board. Instead redress of injustice is always sought through guns and bullets that tensions ending in serious threat of violence and lives of our citizens within the society. Thus the war is then a moral crisis as our people are being like by unknown gunmen. Although that cannot be met by repressive military actions neither can it be left to increase people’s revolutions as many people are taking up guns and move directly to bushes to engage in war campaign against our own people without doubt. In spite of being quieted by token moves or amity talks without commitment to the implementation of the accord than creating other irrelevant forums.
Nevertheless, it is not even enough to pin the blame on others by saying that this problem is not created by particular tribe or another. Nor deplore the fact that we do in fact face together such crisis of our own making in our society. Therefore, the matter does need us to work on a great change which is already in our hand, and our task, our obligation is to stage meaningful revolution as a reality that changes and peacefully constructive for all. But those who do nothing are even inviting shame on us as well as violence throughout the country. While those who do act boldly are recognizing right as well as reality to be done to people in the society. It is our country and we should not be controlled or owned by few individuals for selfish interest gains. Our country has become one since day one as all of us are here to enjoy equal chance to develop talents without any discrimination. Only we need to avoid extreme political disagreements that can tear apart our country due to frustration that leads to civil war in the end. As the primarily cause of that does come from differ opinions over issues of concern of interests about who is the ultimate political authority within a commonwealth of nation.
Strictly speaking thus in political history, kings do claim to be the ones who have final say on political matters although at times that is called into question by members of parliament. According to Hobbes, the only way to escape civil war and to maintain a state of commonwealth is to institute an important and absolute sovereign power which is the final authority on all political affairs. This reason President of South Sudan believes that he has divine right God granted him the power outside the law according to his own prerogative. Thus democracy is then inadequate partly because common people are easily swayed towards politically destructive actions by demagogues as Hobbes argued. Therefore, if political power is placed in the hands of the common people, who are under the influence of power hungry individuals who are seeking their own advantage, then the commonwealth will likely fall in the end like what has happened in South Sudan. In these circumstances our President has definitely lost control because of the bitter ongoing war within the country with lack of financial resources required to maintain the military and even to run the system of governance effectively. On top of that people are now corrupted by seducers to accept opinions and beliefs that are contrary to social and political harmony. They have indoctrinated their listeners with seditions principles that are destructive within the society. In this case the challenge in our hands is how these conflicting parties could ultimately come to agreement as compromise on their political ideas in order for peace to be achieved for progress and prosperity within the society.
Moreover, it is well stated by Menachem Begin that “peace is the beauty of life. It is the smile of a child, the love of a mother, the joy of a father, the togetherness of a family. It is the advancement of man, the victory of a just cause, the triumph of truth.” Added to that Christie said that share your smile with the World. It’s a symbol of friendship and peace. But have you ever asked yourself few questions such as: Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone’s face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go off my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are real authentic questions that matter to us if we are to leave together in peace and harmony as brothers and sisters in Christ. I must say the truth that the little bit of love that I sow now, will expand and bear many fruits, here in our society instead of fighting ourselves as if we are not civilized people.
