The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in opposition yesterday condemned in the strongest terms possible the continued detention of their leader, Dr. Riek Machar allegedly by IGAD.
In a press release, that was forwarded to Juba Monitor, the Director for Information and Public Relation Puok Both Baluang said, “In reference to the above, the SPLM/A-IO regrets to inform the general public that the IGAD, contrary to what had been expected, failed to release Dr. Riek Machar during its 13th Heads of States and Government Extra Ordinary Summit.”
“However the issue was referred to the next ordinary summit which will be held in Khartoum Sudan but date has not been set,” Puok said.
They also deplored the request of President Salva Kiir for immediate relocation of Dr. Machar to Juba as an essential condition to Machar.
“This decision of President Kiir is reflective of ill intention” Baluang said in the Press release.
SPLM-IO noted that the IGAD Council of Ministers, regional and international Envoy to South Sudan unanimously resolved for immediate release of Dr. Riek Machar and for lifting of all restrictions.
