South Sudan national cup competition has officially started on Sunday in Yei River County of central Equatoria state.
Speaking during opening of the league at Yei teachers training college playing ground, Gama Isaac deputy president cited that sports activities were affected by the global covid-19 pandemic.
Isaac believed that reduction in the cases of the Corona virus enabled the government to allow sports activities to resume.
The association’s deputy president appealed to the government to allocate lands for clubs to open playgrounds.
“Today we are starting our league. Corona virus pandemic has interrupted our games but we thank God that Corona Virus has reduced. I have one point to put forward. I want to urge the government more especially the ministry of Youths and sports to give us a chance to open more playing grounds for our youths to practice on daily basic in Yei, we are lacking playing grounds, it is like we are struggling on one play ground. Therefore, am appealing that you put our request to consideration, “appeals the deputy president for Yei local football association.
Meanwhile Clement Benet A commissioner for Youths and sports in Yei River County called on peaceful coexistence to be embraced by the players.
He advised players and referees to respect and follow the rules and regulations of the game in order to embrace peace and unity during the games.
Clement noted that Yei joint stars women football club challenged and showed example of Yei being a center of football and encouraged the players to work hard and win the South Sudan cup in Juba to make the county proud.
“My message in this tournament is one, it is a message of peace. The football you are playing should bring peace. Let people respect the rules and regulations of the game because football has no tribalism and politics. Let us follow the rules and regulations of football. Let us play with one heart of togetherness and embrace peace. If you want to be crowned champions, it is your legs that should make you win. We have been challenged by the girls for the first South Sudan national league and they were crowned champions in just less than four months that made us proud so, you need to imitate the example shown by the ladies, “advised the A commissioner for Youths and sports in Yei County.
The competition started on Sunday with Mission football club opening against Fly united football in which Fly united won the game by 3-1 penalty shootout after ending the ninety minutes in a one all draw.
The stages competitions were expected to conclude on 01.10.2021 and quarter final fixtures would resume.
The winner of the competition was expected to represent Yei River County in the national competition in Juba in mid-November this Year.
