Renewed fighting reported in Moroto Training Centre

A renewed fighting has been reported Tuesday morning in Moroto Training Centre in Kajo-keji County.

The clashes happened in less than 24 hours after heavy fight was reported in Endejo village, 45 kilometers of Kajo-keji town allegedly between forces loyal to Gen. Moses Lokujo and SPLA-IO.

Yesterday, fierce clashes broke out in Endejo between forces affiliated to Gen. Moses Lokujo who recently defected to the SSPDF and SPLA-IO, and continued for six hours.

Moroto Training Centre, about 45 kilometers from Kajo-keji town is said to be under the Joint Transitional Security Committee (JTSC) and hosting unified forces from SSPDF, SPLA-IO and SSOA.

Speaking to Juba Monitor yesterday, Col. Lam Paul Gabriel the Spokesperson of the SPLA-IO, claimed Gen. Moses Lokujo had, upon defection, given SPLA-IO four day ultimatum to vacate Kajo-keji areas including Moroto.

He said Gen. Lokujo attacked their position in Endejo with alleged backing of the SSPDF in execution of the warning.

“When Gen. Lokujo defected, he gave out a four days ultimatum to SPLA-IO to leave Kajo-keji area including Moroto Training Centre, so our SPLA-IO area commander put out reconnaissance unit to watch for aggression. This unit was attacked by forces loyal to Gen. Moses Lokujo after he was re-enforced from Kajokeji,” Col. Gabriel said.

“This (yesterday) morning, forces loyal to Gen. Lokujo combined with SSPDF again attacked the unified Training Centre. What is surprising is the training center attacked under JTSC. Why would he attack an institution like this? That is not only a violation of ceasefire but also a crime,” he added.

However, when contacted by Juba Monitor yesterday, the SSPDF Spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang denied that SSPDF was backing Gen. Lokujo in offensives against SPLA-IO, claiming Gen. Lokujo was attacked in his positions in Kirwa and Endejo areas.

“Yesterday, forces loyal to Maj. Gen. Moses Lokujo were attacked he is in control in Endejo and Kirwa by SPLA-IO forces…so there were attacks and counter attacks between the SPLA-IO and forces loyal to Gen. Lokujo,” Gen. Koang said.

Gen. Koang said the attack on Moroto was a spilled over of yesterday’s clashes between Lokujo and the SPLA-IO.

Gen. Koang said four soldiers were injured among forces loyal to Gen. Lokujo though either Spokesperson death casualties.

Reports from sources on the ground said over four hundred households have fled the embattled areas amid fresh clashes to Uganda and other safer zones within Kajo-keji county.
