The re-integration process for the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) forces into the national army is currently underway in Northern Liech State, Col. Dickson Gatluak Jock, the SPLA-IO Spokesperson, has said.
Those who are undergoing reintegration belong to the SPLA-IO faction loyal to the First Vice President, Taban Deng Gai.
In a statement to Juba Monitor yesterday, Col. Dickson said a number of Generals from the SPLA-IO with their infantry forces will soon take part in a military parade after being re-integrated.
These Generals include; Lt. Gen. Peter Dor Manjur Gatluak, Major-Gen. Karlo Kuol Ruai, Major-Gen. William Gueh Duop, Major-Gen. Micheal Makal Kuol Deng, Major-Gen. David Joang Puk, Major-Gen. Stephen Bol Puok Bur, Major-Gen. Peter Toar Nyuel and Major-Gen. Mayiel Thai Wuor Naam.
Colonel Gatluak further said the SPLA-IO has welcomed the order, adding that it is going to bring diversity within the national army to work for a common purpose, the Defence of the country and its citizens.
“This re-integration exercise will also bring the change in the warring communities and indeed military bases in the whole country,” Col. Gatluak said. “As a partner in the Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU), the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army In Opposition (SPLM-SPLA-IO) under the leadership of Gen.Taban Deng Gai, we mark this (first phase) as an important milestone in the country’s army,” he added.
As stipulated in the transitional security arrangements’ provisions enshrined in Chapter of the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (ARCSS), it is the duty of the warring parties to disseminate the provisions of the agreement to all their forces.
Col. Gatluak said such breakthrough will bring equality and opportunity for all persons in the army regardless of their tribes or and regions.
According to the provisions of ARCSS, which deal with permanent ceasefire and transition security arrangements, the forces belonging to the Government and the SPLA-IO forces should be reintegrated into one national army within eighteen months of the transitional period.
