Refugees decry increasing of teenage pregnancies

By Jurugo Emmanuel Ogasto

The Adjumani Resident District Commissioner (DRC) Mr. Taban Data Peter has expressed fear over the skyrocketing rate of teenage pregnancy and early marriage among the adolescents in the settlements during the long Covid-19 holiday.

Yesterday, Resident District Commissioner told media that he observed the growing anxiety among leaders and the parents over the future aspirations of the teenage girls who have either conceived or married.

The RDC however appealed to parents to give second chance to their girls who have conceived during the Covid-19 period when schools reopen next year 2022.

“Parents, if we are not serious, these girls will not go back to school. Currently the total of 402 cases of rape, defilement and child marriage cases have been registered among primary and secondary school learners because teenage marriages in Adjumani, especially refugee settlements are rampart, and it is becoming alarming,’’ Peter told journalists.
