Rapper Murye Alex alias Mantani, member of the trio Hard-life Avenue died of injuries sustained in a road accident over the weekend.
A statement issued by the group on its official Facebook page confirmed that the artist passed on in a hospital in Kampala after he was referred there on Friday.
“We regret to inform you that, our brother Mantaniof Hard-life the best boy is gone to the angels after trying his best to fight the battle,” read the short statement posted hours after the rapper took his last breath.
The group also announced that funeral rites forthe late were underway at his house in Gudele. Arrangements to bring the body to Juba and later to Kajokeji for his final rest were underway, the group added. A statement alter issued by the group members indicated that his body was expected to reached Juba yesterday
Mantani was involved in a grisly accident in which he suffered injuries to his head and broken leg in Moyo District of the West Nile region in Uganda, on July 22. He was then transferred to Lacor Hospital in Gulu city, the headquarters of the Ugandan Northern District of Gulu Friday evening, an update of his situation shared by the group on Facebook a day earlier stated.
Mantani whose age has not been disclosed, co-founded the South Sudanese Afro-pop and dance music band Hard-life Avenue alongside vocalist SilimanMusa also known as Nicki Prince in 2011 before they were joined by the third member OchwoJunior alias Linus in 2016.
Tributes have been pouring from fans and other South Sudanese community online since the announcement of his death.
Civil activist Wani Michael of the OKAY Africa Foundation wroteon his timeline: “Personally, I had a huge faith that you’ll make it bro. We tried all we had in our own human capacity to rescue and join you in the battle. We‘ve accepted defeat and God who love you so much has called you. We‘ll live to cherish your love and care for everybody. You lived a life that have touched everybody who knew you. Rest in Power bro Mantani, until we meet again. This is still unbelievable but we‘ve to accept it!”
The Hard-life Avenue Stars with their social advocacy style of music have released several successfully hit songs since 2012 making them a household name in the country.
