RAPE OFFENDERS SHOULD NOT BE SPARED

The Gender Based Violence (GBV) court in the country came out with a historic ruling by meting out a ten years jail sentence to a rapist. Another one was in the dock yesterday and given same pills to swallow. This is an indication that the court has teeth to bite which it should maintain at all time for the well-being of a civilized and a discipline society. This is what order of life and existence requires because many girls and women have been the victims of these “animal men” living in their midst and who sometimes goes to an extent of sexually abusing their own kith and kin instead of protecting them. The ten years sentence is a sound warning but it should have been more than that.  The court should not be coerced by any other shadow rule from carrying out their responsibilities to save the girl-child and the entire women folks from marauding sex offenders who are at large and do their things as if the laws of the land protect them. The GBV court should act tough and very fast in expediting cases brought before it so that the many victims who had lost hope could come back to life and have a fresh space of breathing new air once again. The court can also borrow professional leaf from one of the neighbouring country where a father was sentenced to 140 years for sexually abusing his two underage daughters in an abnormal act where the girls both got pregnant. The father was also put in the world record book of the worst sexual offenders of the time. Many women in the country have been subjected to sexual abuse but they remained quiet for fear of public reaction and cultural norms. These are the areas which should be seriously considered by the court. It will restore lost confidence which had engulfed the womenfolk for a long time. The Gender Based Violence (GBV) court in the country came out with a historic ruling by meting out a ten years jail sentence to a rapist.
