A man in Bor town has shot dead a police officer on Saturday for serving him with a warrant of arrest.
An eye witness who did not want to be identified for fear of reprisal told Juba Monitor that the defendant was playing dominoes in market when the police officer delivered the letter of arrest to him.
“The defendant disarmed the police officer and shot him dead,” the witness said. The police officer was serving him with arrest warrant regarding the case of his relative whom he shot on the leg last year,” the witness revealed.
The eyewitness continued that the case remained pending since the victim was undergoing treatment.
“Now this person reported back to the police after he recovered and the police delegated one officer to go and arrest him,” the eyewitness said.
The assailant has fled to unknown place and reportedly using the seized gun to protect himself.
Director for Police Operations in Bor town, Capt. James Tuor Kur confirmed the killing of one of his police officer but refused to give more details about the incident saying that the case was beyond his capacity.
However, attempts to reach Jonglei State Police Commissioner Major General Chol Atem Jongeth for comment were futile by press time.
