A pastor and his wife were reportedly shot dead on Saturday night in Gudele, the police said yesterday.

Another pastor who had rushed to help his colleague was also shot and critically wounded. The incident happened at 3:00 O’clock in Gudele Block Five according to the police.

Residents of the area said the armed robbers attacked the pastor’s home and shot his wife. The pastor then called for help before he was shot dead.

The neighbour who rushed to help the family was also shot and critically wounded.

“They entered the home and shot the wife of the pastor first, and the pastor called his colleague, the colleague came but he was also shot and wounded critically. They then shot the woman’s husband [pastor] dead,” sources told Juba Monitor yesterday.

The police confirmed the incident saying there were still looking for the assailants.

“We went there and confirmed the incident. We launched an investigation but we are still gathering information. We will have more information in the following days, the police spokesperson brigadier Daniel Justine told the Juba Monitor.

The bodies of the pastor and his wife were yesterday taken to the mortuary of Juba Teaching Hospital.  The critically wounded pastor was receiving treatment at the hospital.

Bishop Isaiah Dau Majok, the General Overseer of Sudan Pentecostal Church on Sunday condemned the attack on church leaders. He called on Christians to pray for the bereaved family.

He said the church should also pray for peace to prevail in the country so that evil deeds against the church will be prevented.
