Over 2000 receive jabs with resumption of vaccination

At least 2,300 people received Covid-19vaccinesas the second round of vaccination beganfollowing delivery of 59,520 second batch doses by Covax Facility last week.
The statistics were according to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF)which is facilitating distributionof doses to vaccination centers across the country.
Speaking in a media briefing on Covid-19 update yesterday, Nay Myo Thu, cold chain expert with UNICEF, said 2300 beneficiaries received the jabs in Juba, Wau and Bor following delivery of doses to the last vaccination centers.
“Since August 31, we haveinitiated vaccine delivery to 25 locations, and as of today [Sunday], in 19 out of these 25 locations which is 76 percent, we are done with delivery,” said Dr. Nay.
The country exhausted 60,000 dosesout of 132,000 vaccine doses delivered by Covaxin the first consignment in late March.
As of Sunday September 5, there were 11,517 cases, including 17 freshinfections registered in the past 24 hours, confirmed since the outbreak of the virus last year.
Angelo Guop Thon,the chiefof operations at the Public Health Emergency Operation Center [EOC) said Covid-19 infection rate stood at 4.8 percent last weekwhich alsosaw100 positive cases confirmed.
Guop urged the public to strictly adhere to Covid-19 preventive measuresand called upon the public to go for vaccinationto contain the spread of the pandemic in the country.
