At least one person has been arrested in connection with coronavirus certificates forgery at the airport, the Ministry of Health confirmed.

Last week, the Health Ministry said they were alarmed by fake coronavirus certificates issuing believed to have been taking place at Juba International Airport.

In the past few days, media reports indicate that some locals at Juba International Airport had been seen giving out fake coronavirus certificates to the travelers to ease their traveling.

A spot check by Juba Monitor indicated such fake coronavirus certificates were sold at 30,000 SSP.

But while addressing the weekly press briefing on Sunday, Dr. Thuou Loi, the official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health revealed that at least one person was apprehended by the security team at the Airport.

“I was told that somebody was actually apprehended. This person was actually caught by the security authorities at the Airport and I think he/she is being investigated,” Dr. Loi exposed.

He said they would continue to work with relevant authorities including security personnel to ensure that the issues of fake certificates were dealt with accordingly.

“This is because the only valid entity that can issue to the COVID-19 certificate after anyone tested is the Public Health Laboratory in Juba for those who are traveling,” he said.

“Anything other than that is not allowed and it is not accepted, and I would like to take this opportunity to call on our citizens to keep away from getting involved in any activity that will promote corruption,” Dr. Loi said.

He affirmed that such forgery was a form of corruption.

“This is a corruption by the way. For somebody who is issuing a fake certificate as well as someone who is buying it, the two individuals are actually corrupt and so let’s fight corruption by doing the right things,” Dr. Loi said.

According to Dr, Loi, the new measures on testing and samples collection would bring such malpractices to an end.
