No return to war SPLM-IG, SPLM-IO assured the citizens

The Signatories to the Agreement, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Government (SPLM-IG)and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition(SPLM-IO)yesterday issued separate statements assuring the people of South Sudan that the Revitalized Peace Agreement is in the right track and that, there is no return to war.
However, the first Vice President, Dr Riek Machar allegedly said that last night there was a heavy deployment of Armed forces along with his residence, however, he assured the Citizens that his party will not be the one to take the country back to war.
“SSPDF deployed heavily armed forces with armed personnel carriers on all the routes leading to my residence, and the people who attempted to go to the resident were turned off by these troops, this deployment was removed only at 6:15 AM this morning March 28, 2022,
“I reiterate and confirm unequivocally the solemn commitment of SPLM/SPLA (IO) will not be the one to return the Country to war,” Dr Riek said in the Statement reads.
According to the Statement by SPLM-IG, Peter Lam Both SPLM interim Secretary-General said that utterances by unauthorized individuals from all sides to such eventuality are uncalled for and regretted.
“SPLM would like to make a statement responding to SPLM/A-IO and TROIKA statement on the implementation of R-ARCSS,we want to assure the people of South Sudan that the Revitalized Peace Agreement is in track and that there is no return to war,”
Utterances by unauthorized individuals from all sides to such eventuality are uncalled for and regretted. Those who have been beating the drums of war for the last few days are disgruntled individuals and politicians, most of whom live in diaspora,” the Statement reads.
The press release added that the war in South Sudan is for power-sharing.
“Who is fooling who in this situation? We live in South Sudan and everyone in this country has been following with keen interest what has been happening in our country. We have been saying that war in South Sudan is a war for power sharing, if some leaders don’t see themselves in their party as getting lucrative political positions, they defect and join another group in protestto the decision of their party leader,” Statement added.
However, on 25th March 2022 President Salva Kiir Mayardit issued a presidential Decree on the Unification of command of the Unified Forces in which he relinquished three positions of command in the military and two in the National Police Service to the SPLM/A-IO and SSOA.
Meanwhile, the Vice President,Dr Riek Machar rejected PresidentKiir order on Unified forcessaying that it’s a ‘Unilateral decision’ and that the forces should be composed of 50:50 sharing ratio, citing article 2.1.11 of the Agreement.
