Miss World to support menstrual hygiene
The former Miss World of South Sudan, Ajah Kiir Monychol said, she is set to hold a Run way for sanitary pads- a fashion show dedicated to raise sanitary pads, soap and pants for women and as well young girls in a bit to promote menstrual hygiene especially among those who cannot afford it due to the current economic crisis.
According to the 2015/2016 Miss World, the event is expected to be held in Juba on the first of next month in Juba
She said most school girls do miss classes during their menstrual period simply because they are not able to buy sanitary items. “The event is targeting to gather over 100, 000 sanitary pads”.
“We welcome as many pads as one can bring, we don’t need money for this fund raising. Just buy pads, soap and pants for our future mothers,” Ms. Kiir said.
As the economic hardship continues to hit the country, thousands of women and girls in rural areas cannot afford sanitary pads and keep clean during their menstruation period, according to Ms. Kiir.
As it is commonly said “charity begins at home” the former Miss World said she started the campaign from her home Jonglei and then spread the drive to all parts of the country.
The Run way for Sanitary is set to feature fashion designers, who will display their outfits through Run way models.
