Mental health services in the country are in crisis. Those seeking such services have been left without adequate resource because of lack of experts and facilities to handle such cases.
Specialists in mental health provide health assessment and psychiatric rehabilitation to patients.
Some of these patients have been declared incompetent to proceed to trial or to be proven guilty by reason of insanity by state or criminal courts as well as civil psychiatric hospital services providers.
Most of these patients are left in prisons without proper medical care.
The best place for them is not prisons but to be taken for treatment at a mental facility.
