Media must be part of Africa transformation -Museveni

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda has advised the media to report positive stories about Africa and her people saying Africa is the center for modern history and ancient human civilization.
He said no media outlet talks about how African people discovered all those good things.
President Museveni made the statement last Friday at the State House in Entebbe during the Presidential Media Roundtable where he met with the media owners and senior managers.
In his cheerful and frank discussion with journalists, President Museveni said the media should have a responsibility to transform Africa but not channels of criticizing the government.
He told journalists to go out there and change the mindset of other people about African people and their ways of living. “African cultures are what make Africa unique compared to other continents because we respect ourselves and elders according to our ancestral values and beliefs,” he said.
According to the president there are other issues that the media do not highlight.
He urged the media outlets, besides entertaining general public to educate and inform their audiences about the survival of the African people because no one should have illusion that we shall compromise on our African survival.
Mr. Museveni also made a strong presentation on the Africa’s historic struggle against colonialism and the need for patriotism and Pan-Africanism to move Africa forward through media.
The media briefing was organized under the theme “Focusing on the survival of Africa and its people” and the media’s role to market Africa good deeds and its richness in culture to the outside world who don’t know Africa.
Speaking at the same occasion, the Chairman National Association of Broadcasters (NBA) Mr. Kariisa said “The media wants to be part of the solution to the challenges affecting Ugandans and the continent of Africa at large”.
He said that all media houses must portray good image of African continent at all time because Africa can only be marketed by African media and its people.
