MACHAR, ODINGA Meeting in South Africa fruitful

Dr. Riek Machar, the former First Vice President who turned rebel leader said he had a fruitful discussion with Kenya’s main Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Friday in South Africa.
The two leaders met to discuss ways on how to reach peaceful resolution of the conflict in South Sudan.
In a statement posted on a twitter, Dr. Machar said his meeting with Odinga was fruitful.
“I had a fruitful discussion with Raila Odinga in the quest for peace in our country,” he posted. “IO and myself have been advocating for this peaceful resolution of the conflict,” Dr. Machar said.
He added that the status quo shouldn’t stand and that something will change. However, he did not give much information about the outcome of their meeting.
Dr. Machar is the leader of SPLM-IO in South Sudan whereas ODM Leader Raila Odinga is the Kenya’s Main opposition leader.
Raila’s trip came weeks after he held talks with President Salva Kiir in Juba. He is recently engaged with South Sudanese leaders as part of the diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the civil war in South Sudan.
Earlier the IGAD, a body task with mediating South Sudan talks proposed a face-to-face meeting between President Kiir and Opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar before resumption of next peace talks.
President Kiir last week expressed willingness to meet his political rival when Sudan’s Omar Al-Bashir offered to mediate between the two in Khartoum.
Reports in Khartoum also indicated that Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed will attend the meeting between the two South Sudanese leaders in Khartoum.
