Luol Deng Foundation launches girls’ basketball tournament

Luol Deng foundation (LDF) has launched the first ever female basketball tournament to help girls to promote their talents in the country.

Speaking during the official launching at Manut Bol Basketball ground in University of Juba-Main Campus, Michael Acuil Mading, the Director of the foundation said that women could contribute to the peace building process.

“We truly believe in the way how women can build a better and peaceful future for the people of South Sudan, hence we always ensured that girls and women are included in our programs and on our staff,” said Mading.

He said the launch has come in the right time because a lot of young girls had shown interest in the game. He added that it was really something very special for the girls in the country.

Meanwhile, Arek Ajuo Deng, the CEO of the Luol Deng Foundation said that the league was to raised‘girls’ basketball skills in the country’.

“Basically, these first ever girls Basketball league is about skill competition for girls, it is the beginning, but very important in the life of these young girls,”

She added that the foundation believed the tournament would impact positively and improve and change lives of the young girls in the country.

She encouraged the young girls to put more effort in the league in order to improve their talents and skills.

“It is through basketball that make some of us to be who we are today and known, let me tell you that it is basketball that has changed my life and the family I am in,” the CEO revealed.

However, she called on the ladies not to neglect the work at home adding that helping the families at home was one way of achieving success in one’s life.

Arek said that there was a bright future in the young generations. The CEO called for joining hands together to achieve the goals for the nation.
