Leer conflict death toll increases to 30 people

Authorities in Leer County of Unity State said that the death toll has increased to 30 people and several other injuries.

  Stephen Taker Riek, the commissioner of Leer county said that the wounded people are receiving treatment in MSF, IRC, UNIDOR and other health facilities in Leer County. We have so many health facilities in Leer County where wounded people are receiving treatment,”

He added that the armed youth attackers from neighboring Mayiandit and Koch counties have returned back to their villages.

Last week, religious leaders called on the government to silence guns and provide necessary humanitarian assistance to the displaced persons in Leer County of Unity State. However, the authorities in Unity State said that an unconfirmed number of civilians were killed in Leer County of Unity State.

The religious leader called the government to stop war whether it is between SSPDF or SPLM/A-IO or communities, it has to stop because the destruction is on us, on our brothers on our sisters, on our mothers. government has to silence guns in a unity state and bring peace among the people.

Also, The Ministry of General Education in Unity State noted that more than 208 candidates from various counties in Panyijar, Koch and Mayiandit and Leer will miss out senior four examination on the 20th of April 2022 this year  due to problems related to insecurity, flooding and accessibility due to poor roads networks for transportation in Unity State.
