Lawmaker experts in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State urged Security organs to observe article 6 of the criminal procedural act.

John Wani Ladu, Yei County Senior Legal Persecutor Attorney General calls on law institutions to observe article 6 of the South Sudan criminal procedure 2008 for the law to take its course.

“Every accused person shall have the right of fair and speedy trial without justice delayed. Every accused person shall have the right to a fair and speedy trial without justice being delayed. So if the police have delayed a case or judged a case unfairly, it violates article one of the south Sudan criminal procedure act 2008. There should always be a fair trial and justice accorded to all not selected based on who the person is,” He commends.

He emphasizes that it is their mandate as the Judges to disseminate to the citizens and execute South Sudan laws.

Meanwhile, Yei County Chief Inspector of Police Brigadier General Sabino Dominic Tobo acknowledges the effort of the people in Yei in reducing crimes.

He reveals that his institution receives less crime in a week and urges for continuity in curtailing crimes in the County.

“Well, I want to thank the people of Yei because when I came here, I found a lot of issues but as far now people have totally changed. Criminal cases have completely reduced. There are some days when the prison is empty because there are no culprits brought into the custody. Am sure what we are saying will help the people of Yei so much because they are people who obey the laws. We believe that in the next run, we shall not witness many people in police custody, the police inspector reveals.

He revealed that article 6 of the South Sudan criminal procedure act 2008 sub-section 1-8 states said very clearly that every accused person shall have the right to a fair and speedy trial and Justice applied to all.

“No one is subject to inhuman or cruel treatment and the accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty and should be proven beyond a reasonable doubt,”

In October 2021, the legal administration office and public prosecutor attorney in Yei River County organized legal awareness to security organs in order to build the confidence of civilians by stopping illegal arrests without warrants and following legal procures.
