Kiir restructures SPLA leadership

President Salva Kiir has restructured the leadership of SPLA general staff through a Republican order.

In a Republican order aired on South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Monday, President Kiir restructured the SPLA general staff to comprise of; the Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs, Chief of Defense force, Deputy Chief of Defense force and Inspector General, Assistant Chief of Defense force for administration, personnel and finance, Assistant Chief of Defense for operations, training and intelligence, Assistant Chief of Defense force for logistics and procurement, Commander of ground force and the Commander of Air force and Air defense.

The presidential is based on the resolutions of the fifth SPLA Command Council Conference in June 2016, that resulted in the establishment of Defense Structural Review Committee through a Ministerial order N0. 08/2015 tasked with reviewing organizational structures of the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs in line with the SPLA white paper on Defense 2008.

The decree comes into effect on 15th May 2017 upon signature by the President.
