By James Atem Kuir
President Salva Kiir Mayardit has fired Eng. Mark Mayol Malek as the Undersecretary of Telecommunication and Postal Services in the Ministry of Information, Communication, Technology and Postal Services (MoICT &PS).
In a Presidential Decree number 66/2020 read on the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Thursday evening, Kiir as usual did not mention the reasons for the dismissal of the undersecretary of the Postal Service.
Eng. Malek was appointed to the post in a series of presidential decrees which also saw the formation of the board of directors of the National Communications Authority (NCA) comprising of 9 members according the NCA Act.
President Kiir in another decree number 67/2020 appointed Dr. Lado Wani Kenyi the former Director General of the National Communication Authority (NCA) as his replacement in the Ministry.
Dr. Kenyi who had been the first Director General of the NCA since the authority’s establishment in 2015 was also replaced by Eng. Napoleon Adok Gai who was the Executive Director of Gateway, late last month by a presidential decree.
In the then Government of National Unity (GoNU), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Telecommunication and Postal Services were amalgamated and became the Ministry of ICT and Postal Services.
The Ministry has since then been run by two undersecretaries, i.e. the Undersecretary of Telecommunication and Postal Services and another for Information.
