Jani and Tiana crowned Mr & Miss STA 2018

Jani Maker Manhom and Tiana Nyagel Michael have been crowned as the new   Mister and Miss South Theatre Academy 2018 respectively.

The event is organized annually for awarding the best in those sectors. The organization held its 4th annual beauty contest in Nairobi Kenya late last month.

The competition drew a total of 19 contestants, eleven ladies and eight gentlemen. The theme of the day was “Promoting Peace, Love and Unity in Diversity.”

The two were crowned the Queen and the King in an event that drew a large crowd of fashion lovers.

The South Theatre Academy program provides an essential element of communication by translating information and education into action oriented options through motivational processes that reflect in culturally relevant terms, hope, values and traditions of South Sudanese people.

“Our main objective is to nurture creativity in art and sports. We are committed toward making a difference among our communities by highlighting issues affecting the society through music, drama, poetry, dance, films, modeling and fashion to bring South Sudanese youth together irrespective of the ethnic, religion and political affiliation,” said STA Executive Director Marko Madut Majak.

The winners received USD 200 plus a hamper. The first runner up walked away with USD 150 plus a hamper and second runner up with USD 100 plus a hamper.

The four judges were drawn from Kenya to avoid bias. They included Judges Peter Malaba, Chris Abayo, Judy and Mariana Atemi.

“The event was great compared to the previous years. All models gave their best in the choreography and attendants has also improved,” according to Majak.

South Theatre Academy is an organization that brings together young gifted South Sudanese living in Kenya. The organization is registered under community based organization (CBO) in Kenya. It was established in 2012 with the mission of transforming and empowering young people (men and women) positively through creation of opportunities in the sector of Arts, culture and sport.
