By Martin Manyiel Wugol in Kampala

The South Sudanese Human Right Network based in Uganda has called on the government to intervene on Jonglei flood disaster which has devastated people in the State.

The human rights body which is under the umbrella of Center for Peace and Advocacy known as (CPA) is deeply worried by the slow approach South Sudan government has taken to address such disastrous calamity in time.

In May, Uganda Government announced that the level of water in Lake Victoria has immensely risen since October last year and it has continued till today due to heavy down pour in the Country.

Speaking on behalf of CPA, the Executive Director Ter Manyang Gatwech called on government to make immediate assessment in the areas affected by floods in the country, particularly in Jonglei state.

“As the mouthpiece of citizens Centre for Peace and Advocacy (CPA), I urge the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission to intervene immediately in order to help the most affected victims of floods,” Manyang said.

Mr. Manyang appealed to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in the country to urgently respond to rescue citizens from deplorable situation.

Kou Alier Kou, Bor community leader in Uganda told Juba Monitor on phone that the situation on the ground is disastrous which needed immediate and quick intervention for the government and international NGOs to give their hand in support to the people. Alier equally called on government to take drastic approach in helping the needy people of Jonglei state because for the last 14 days young men and women tried their local approaches in stopping the flood by building some barriers to stop water from overflowing but not sustainable by any standard.

Speaking on behalf of the community in Uganda Alier said the communities in Uganda and abroad are trying harder to make emergency relief effort to help people back home saying Covid-19 was a stumbling block to quick response.
