Governor warns rebels against attacking civilians

The Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony has warned the National Salvation Front (NAS) forces against ambushes and killings of civilians.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, governor Adil assured citizens of state and national government’s commitment to implement the revitalized agreement on the resolution of conflict in South Sudan.
“We understand that there are still pockets of National Salvation Front of SSOMA which are roaming in our bushes terrorizing our population alongside movement in and outside Yei. As government, we are implementing peace, therefore these activities of NAS forces, we condemn it and pay condolences to those who died or (were) injured and I call the citizens to cooperate with government and security organs in (pursuit) of peace because it is important to have peace (and)stability for the development of the nation,” said Adil.
He added that the entire population should be patient with the government as they work towards implementation of the revitalized transitional government of national unity because inauguratingof the national legislature was a key milestone towards the implementation of the peace deal.
On Saturday, Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony met with county and security authorities, youth, women, religious leaders and stakeholders to discuss ways of restoring peace and security in Yei.
Yei River County had been witnessing conflicts as forces of the national salvation front loyal to General Thomas Cirilo controlled most of the areas outside Yei town.
Recently, thousands from Logo Boma of Lasu Payam in Yei River County were displaced due to clashes between the government and NAS forces in Yembe area.
