Jonglei State Governor Philip Aguer has sacked the Minister of Labour and Public Service Thon Simon Thok after a long disagreement with the assembly to have him in the office.

In April, 2018 Mr. Thon Simon Thok was directed by the Governor, Philip Aguer to update the list of civil servants in order to minimize ghost names in the state government.

When the Minister revealed the ghost names in the assembly, the report caused condemnation by the lawmakers which led to his impeachment by the state assembly.

The Lawmakers demanded the Governor Aguer to remove Minister Thok or they cut off cooperation with his government. However, Aguer requested Mr. Thok to keep away from office till the issue was resolved.

Speaking to Juba Monitor, the Deputy speaker of Jonglei State Legislative Assembly, Alier Malar confirmed that the former Minister of Labour was sacked for failing to appear before the House.

“This is a procedure of the assembly and if we impeach any minister, the person is likely to be removed out of the position,” said Malar.

“The former minister did not adhere to the summon because when the assembly summons a minister then he or she must appear before the house,” he added.

Mr. Malar reiterated that the House had already passed a vote of no confidence against the minister and nothing more is needed to be done for those who did not respect the parliament.

Jonglei State Governor Philip Aguer yesterday relieved Mr. Thon Simon Thok from the position of state Minister of Labour and Public Service in a decree number 36/2018 without replacement.

When contacted for comment yesterday, Mr. Thon said he was not ready to speak to the media.
