Gov’ starts distribution of food items in Juba

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management (MHADM) in collaboration with the Egyptian Embassy in Juba has started the distribution of the assorted goods donated by the Egyptian government to rescue the hunger situation in the Country.

The Egyptian government has so far delivered six of the ten cargoes that were expected to deliver humanitarian assistance to South Sudan.

The donation was a response to the request made by President Salva Kiir for humanitarian assistance after the famine was declared in February by the government and three UN agencies.

On Thursday, 300 cartoons of the assorted goods were given to Juba Teaching Hospital and 130 cartons were given to Al-Sabah Children’s Hospital while another 150 cartoons were delivered to Juba Central Prison.

Minister of Health Dr. Riak Gai Kok and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hussein Mar Nyuot as well as diplomats from the Egyptian Embassy in Juba witnessed the delivery of the items.

Hussein Mar Nyuot said the donation should go directly to the needy patients who are not able to get food in the hospital.

He asked the nurses and everyone in the hospital to report to the ministry any case of mismanagement. He said his office is open to receive any complaints.

“There are some people who are going to play with these items, I ask you to report to me any mismanagement,” he said.

Dr. Riak Gai Kok applauded the efforts of the Egyptain government  for helping the people of South Sudan with the relief items

He said the food items are meant for the patients at the hospital. “we cannot be happy when there is a mother suffering at the hospital.”

Meanwhile the director general of Juba Central Prison Lt Gen. Henry Kuany welcomes the donation from the Egyptian government.

He said the donation signals that the central prison is not forgotten.
