Former Miss World calls for end to early marriage
Ajah Kiir has called for an end to child marriage in the country to give the girls the chance to continue with studies.
She made the call during the Runway for Sanitary pads on Saturday last week.
“This issue of child marriage must stop, parents who have been forcing their daughters to get married should stop it,” Mrs. Kiir said.
“These girls want to study and have good jobs like their brothers whom the parents see as the future”
“We are all equal,” She added.
The former miss world said if girls and boys are given equal opportunities, they can compete in all aspects of life.
“With this sanitary pads and your kind contribution, you have helped school going girls to stay at school even during their menstruation cycles,” she said.
The night that was themed a ladies’ day show performances from Tutu Baibe, Hard Life Avenue crew and Hip-Hop Revolution who kept the fashion lovers entertained.
The Runway for Sanitary pads aimed at fundraising featured; South Sudanese finest fashion designers, Doris Sukeji and Stella. The two displayed their different outfits through the Runway models.
According to Mrs. Kiir, the Runway Sanitary pads contribution is in progress and whoever needs to contribute can still do so.
The sanitary pads are expected to be donated to Juba Teaching Hospital for Maternity ward and girls’ schools. some items shall be distributed to Jonglei to support school girls there.
Relief-Line Africa had also handed over the Boxes of reusable sanitary pads ahead of the event and the Head of Operation pledged a continual support to the Runway Sanitary pads initiative.
