Forces threaten to quit centers over graduation

The Director of Toufigia Unified Police Training Center in Upper Nile State, Brigadier General James Lul Chuol warned that the training Centre would soon be deserted if the forces were not graduated speedily.

Gen. Chuol urged the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs and the Joint Defense Board (JDB)-the body overseeing the training of the unified forces-and other stakeholders to urgently graduate the forces.

He said a number of the unified forces in Toufigia Training Centre have left the training due to the worsening living conditions.

“It is very important for your office to work hard and graduate the first batch because if you graduate this first batch, then you will have more to come and attend the second batch, but if this first bitch is going to take long to be graduated, then the training center will be deserted,” he said.

“This forces are suffering, even some of them where asking why they were deployed here, we were brought for long distance to be trained and our people led us down,” he said.

Chuol was speaking during a visit by the Minister of Defense into Upper Nile State training centers of Alal and Toufigia.

The Minister was accompanied by members of National Transitional Committee.

The motive of the visit was to assess the readiness of the unified forces ahead of their graduation and deployment.

The Minister of Defense Angelina Teny explained that she is working to ensure that the forces would be graduated before the end of this month and this to avoid the collapse of the peace Agreement.

“We want you to be graduated soon, because if you continue staying in this situation and you desert the training center then that means the Revitalized Agreement would collapsed.”

She added that the military has a big role to play in order to change the current situation and to build trust and confidence with civilians because after graduation, civilians will not fear you.

“Your role will be to protect the civilians and their properties and this will mark the beginning of real change in our nation,” she said.

She urged the forces in both training centers to understand that they do have role to play.

The training of unified forces came as a result of the warring parties signed peace Agreement in September 2018.
