A group of Arsenal football fans in Torit Eastern Equatoria State, said it would spend up to SSP 500,000 to celebrate FA Cup win at the end of this month.
Arsenal Football Club, one of the English Premier League teams won this year’s FA Cup on 1st of this month for 14th times in the history of world football.
Young people in Africa have been often known for supporting Europeans Football clubs despite being miles away from the continent.
Speaking to Juba Monitor yesterday, the acting Chairperson of Arsenal fans in Eastern Equatoria State Mr. Ohucholi Patrick said, the group would use the day to pay a visit to vulnerable groups like orphans and hospital, to show solidarity to them.
“We are aiming to contribute about SSP 500, 000 to hold the celebration, and currently our contribution is going on very well. We planned to celebrate before the end of the month because Arsenal will be playing the community shield so we want it to coincide,” Patrick said.
“We are yet to communicate the date of celebration because we are doing some resource mobilization, the nature of our celebration is going to be inform of charity by visiting the orphanage, the hospital and the prison to offer some essentials like soaps and other items,” he said.
Mr. Oromo Peter Oliha, finance Secretary urged the fans to speed up contribution to meet the deadline.
“My message to my loyal fans, please, let’s hurry up because our time is not enough, we need to make the day colorful,” said Peter.
The spokesperson of the group Okech Wilson, told youth to use sports as an option for creating togetherness among themselves.
“We need to work together as youth so that we use football as a uniting factor, because if we come together we will be able to solve our differences,” Okech explains.
